Classified staff recognition week was last week, and the district wishes to recognize the hard working custodians and maintenance staff for all they have done over the past 14 months to ensure our school sites were clean and safe for students and staff to be able to return to in-person instruction early last fall. The custodians have always been excellent at maintaining cleanliness of the schools. With Covid precautions, they not only had to clean daily but disinfect the entire campus daily as well to reduce the possible spread of the virus. Their work hours had to be adjusted and sometimes increased to accommodate the class schedules in order to be present when students were on campus for constant wiping of surfaces. It has taken much effort and focus. Maintenance staff had to do much preparation as well. Air filters had to be upgraded to MERV 13 filters. These filters had to be changed regularly. Touchless paper towel dispensers and water refill stations had to be installed. Products had to be ordered and supplies maintained to continue the level of services required. This group has shown up every day to work to serve the staff and students. The Pierce District appreciates its custodians and maintenance staff for their hard work each and every day to maintain a safe and healthy learning environment. What a great team of people!
