Arbuckle Elementary also offers early access daily starting at 7:00 am. The Arbuckle Elementary after school phone number is 530-723-3964

Expanded Learning

Expanded Learning refers to before school, after school, summer, or intersession learning programs that focus on
developing the academic, social, emotional, and physical needs and interests of pupils through hands-on, engaging
learning experiences.

After School Programs

Our after-school program is designed to enhance academic performance and support positive youth development by using evidence-based strategies and best practices. We continue to access, evaluate, plan, and implement effective approaches that foster growth in both academic and social-emotional areas.

I am very excited to serve as the Expanded Learning Director for Pierce Joint Unified School District.

I have been part of this wonderful community for over 30 years and have proudly worked for Pierce Joint Unified for the past 20. Throughout my educational journey, I have worn many hats and experienced the district from multiple perspectives.

My first connection to PJUSD was as a parent, which gave me a deep appreciation for our schools and community. Shortly after, I joined the district as a crossing guard and yard duty supervisor. During my second year, I discovered my passion for out-of-school-time programs when I became a substitute after-school paraeducator. That experience led me to my next chapter as the After School Site Coordinator at Arbuckle Elementary—a role I proudly held for 15 years while also serving as a substitute teacher.

For the past three years, I have had the privilege of serving as the District Expanded Learning Director, where I continue to build upon my lifelong commitment to supporting students, families, and staff through meaningful, engaging, and enriching opportunities. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have an questions. 530-476-2522  ext. 13347   cgessford@pjusd.com

About Me

I have been married to my husband, Scott, for over 30 years. Together, we have three wonderful children—Candace, Alyson, and Matthew—and four amazing grandchildren: Rylie, Levi, Gauge, and Owen.

Our favorite thing to do is spend time with our family. We love sports, gardening, and spending time outdoors. Most days, you can find us cheering from the sidelines at our grandkids’ many sporting events—it’s one of our greatest joys and keeps us happily busy!
