Pierce Joint Unified is pleased to recognize its school nurse and nurse’s assistant, Janet Myers and Nubia Hernandez. This year has been like no other in regards to the health of our students. Their duties this year due to the Covid pandemic have included symptom screening of students not feeling well, supervising the student isolation room when a child is ill, training staff and answering questions related to COVID, and overseeing testing of student athletes. Janet and Nubia continue to also do their typical work including immunization record screening which includes contacting parents for records, hearing and vision screenings, medication distribution, and writing and implementing student health plans. Janet is instrumental each year in working with the county health department to arrange flu mist clinics for our students and flu shot clinics for our employees. We applaud the work of our district healthcare professionals and thank them especially for the extra care they have provided to students, staff and parents during this pandemic over the course of the last year.
